Areas we can help you with

Anxiety

Stress, worry and panic attacks can impact our physical and mental wellbeing and affect how we live our lives. Together we will work to understand underlying issues and thought patterns, replacing unhealthy strategies with purposeful healthy behavioural changes.

Grief and Loss

The pain of loss can feel overwhelming. Working therapeutically can help find healthy ways to cope with your grief and to begin the healing process.

Self-Esteem
Low self-esteem considerably impacts our motivation and belief in ourselves. Together we can explore your core beliefs and inner critic and work to find strategies to change your thought processes.
Disordered Eating

Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and Emotional Eating take a huge toll not only on our lives but can also have serious consequences for our long term health. We have therapists trained to help you figure out the causes of your disordered eating who will work with you to develop better ways of coping with difficult emotions and situations and help you build better eating habits and a healthier lifestyle leaving you free to get on with your life.

Relationships

Relationships can be difficult to negotiate. Working together we can explore your needs and wants, communication styles and skills in order to enrich different relationships.

School Refusal

School refusal can happen for many different reasons. These can vary from bullying and peer pressure to academic struggles to anxiety and panic. Together we will gently explore the underlying issues and work towards finding healthy resources to support you.

Depression

While occasionally feeling down is a normal part of life, depression is different: some of us struggle with sadness, or to find meaning or hope in our lives; others feel they have nothing to offer, and many feel withdrawn and fatigued. Whether the cause of your depression is clear or unknown, our experienced counsellors are here to provide support for you and work with you so you don’t have to suffer alone.

Social Anxiety

Social Anxiety can be extremely uncomfortable and limiting; not only do we worry hugely about any situation in which we may be judged, but often we avoid those situations altogether. Our experienced therapists work with you to understand the causes of your anxiety, help you manage your symptoms and slowly and safely get your life back on track.

Self-Harm

Some of us use Self Harm to handle difficult feelings, situations, memories or experiences, usually by hurting ourselves or putting ourselves in danger. Whilst doing this may provide some instant relief from suffering, not only is it dangerous but over time it generally leaves us feeling worse. We offer a safe, caring and confidential space in which we work with you to understand the causes of your behaviour, and help you manage it and develop healthier ways of coping in life going forward.

Parents & Adolescents

Adolescence can be a turbulent time for both parents and teenagers. Therapy can help both parties to navigate its challenges successfully.

Work and Career Issues

There are times in our work or career where we feel dissatisfied or even distressed; there may be a clear cause for this, or it may be a more general sense of things not being right for you, a lack of direction or motivation. Our qualified therapists are trained to work with you to explore what’s going on, and help you work out how to deal with the situation more effectively.

What to Expect During a Session

Sessions typically last 50 minutes. These are confidential, non-judgmental and completely client centered.

As everyone has their own unique story, there are no contracted amount of sessions. However, it is important to note that while many people report beginning to feel better after one or two sessions, it can take a number of sessions before you notice the full benefits of counselling coming through.

Our team of effective and caring counsellors are delighted to welcome you to Counsellingworks, and to work with you to discover the best possible therapeutic treatment for you.
